Vegetable gardening in small spaces focus of workshop
Join University of Nevada Cooperative Extension on Saturday, Sept. 11, for a workshop on vegetable gardening in small spaces. The workshop is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon.
The class, taught by Angela O’Callaghan, is designed to show you how to make the most of your small space. Topics, such as types of containers to use, differences in potting mixes, using artificial light, fertilizers, success with seeds and more, will be covered. Homeowners and other interested parties are welcome to attend.
Class space is limited and advanced registration is required. There is a $15 fee, which includes class materials.
The workshop will be held at the Lifelong Learning Center, 8050 Paradise Road.

Extension accepting orders for bare root fruit trees
Interested in growing your own fruit at home? The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is accepting orders through the end of August for bare root fruit trees that will be delivered in January.
The fruit trees available for sale are the best recommended from research performed at the Cooperative Extension’s Orchard in North Las Vegas.
They will be available, delivered as bare root trees, in January from Dave Wilson Wholesale Nursery in California, one of the largest fruit tree growers in the world.

Designers to take closer look at suite competition
First Fridays at the Las Vegas Design Center will take A Closer Look at the Design a Suite Downtown Competition at its next gathering, scheduled for 10 a.m. Sept. 3 in room C176 in the design center.
The first design competition of its kind in Las Vegas, Design a Suite Downtown challenged local interior designers to create an original, inspired vision for a luxury suite at the El Cortez. On July 27, a panel of judges including some of the top creative minds in interior design gathered and selected four finalists who earned an opportunity to make their designs come to life.
Competition adviser and judge Brian Thornton will provide an expanded look at the submissions and the judging process.
Founder of Brian G. Thornton Designs, Thornton has more than 30 years of hospitality, commercial, upper-end residential and retail design experience.
