Woman found dead in home after fire

A young woman was found dead Monday afternoon in a northwest valley home after a small fire, the Las Vegas Fire Department said.

Department spokesman Tim Szymanski said firefighters were alerted to a call of a "medical emergency" at 2:56 p.m. at 7321 Backstretch Drive, near Tenaya Way and Azure Drive.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw that smoke was in the house. The body of a woman was found by the front door. Szymanski said the woman appeared to be in her late 20s or early 30s.

Szymanski said a fire began in a rear bedroom but burned itself out quickly.

Szymanski said fire investigators and Las Vegas police were investigating, which is routine when a body is found at a fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
