Hearing set for former cop charged in murder plot
Henderson Chief Justice of the Peace Rodney Burr on Thursday set a Jan. 11 preliminary hearing for a former Las Vegas police officer accused of a plot to kill his girlfriend, attorney Nancy Quon.
But the hearing, which determines whether William Ronald Webb will stand trial, might not take place. Prosecutors plan to ask a grand jury to indict Webb before the hearing to move the case directly to District Court for trial.
Webb, 42, is facing a three-count criminal complaint charging him with conspiracy to commit murder, trafficking in a controlled substance and conspiracy to violate the controlled substances act. The complaint alleges Webb conspired to obtain 51.4 grams of the club drug gamma-hydroxybutyric acid to give to Quon, who police think planned to kill herself.
Police suspect that Webb and Quon plotted her demise because of an FBI investigation into allegations of fraud within homeowners associations around the valley. Las Vegas police describe Quon’s indictment in the federal case as “imminent.”
Quon, 50, has told police that she never planned suicide, and she has not been charged in the death plot.
Earlier this month, court-appointed psychiatrists found Webb competent to stand trial. The evaluations were sought by his lawyer, John Momot.
