Judge allows new defense lawyer for Jackson doctor
LOS ANGELES — A judge has allowed a new attorney to join the defense team of the doctor charged in Michael Jackson’s death.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor ruled Friday that there was “no real or potential conflict of interest” that prevents Nareg Gourjian from joining the case.
Gourjian worked for celebrity attorney Mark Geragos, who represented Jackson when he was facing child molestation charges. Pastor ruled after meeting in chambers with Geragos and an attorney for Jackson’s estate.
Dr. Conrad Murray faces an involuntary manslaughter charge and opening statements in his trial are slated to begin May 9.
Gourjian replaces another attorney who left after a preliminary hearing in January where the doctor was ordered to stand trial.
Murray is a Houston cardiologist who has an office in Las Vegas.
