Teacher arrested for failing to report students’ gun

A Mojave High School teacher was arrested Thursday for failing to report students who were in possession of a gun, according to a law enforcement source.

The teacher faces charges of child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, the source said.

School police made the arrest but did not release the North Las Vegas high school teacher’s name Thursday.

School police and school administrators were alerted to the gun by an anonymous tip on Thursday morning.

Officers then found a 9mm semi-automatic handgun in a student’s backpack and charged two male juveniles, a sophomore and a senior, with possession of a dangerous weapon on campus and possession of an unregistered firearm.

Clark County School District police Lt. Roberto Morales said an 18-year-old student also is being investigated in the incident at the school at 5302 Goldfield St., near the intersection of Washburn Road and Commerce Street.
