Teen charged as adult in school hostage incident

A Las Vegas teenager has been indicted as an adult on eight counts, including attempted murder and kidnapping, after he was accused of putting a knife to the throat of a middle school secretary and trying to stab a school dean.

The indictment against Carlos Geovani Garcia Jr., who was 14 at the time of the Sept. 13 incident, was handed down Wednesday.

The teen is alleged to have been upset about a parent-teacher conference that was scheduled because of his disruptive behavior at Monaco Middle School, near Nellis and Lake Mead boulevards.

When the boy went to confront the dean, Chris McEntire, he took the dean’s secretary, Gisselle Saenz, hostage by holding a knife to her throat and dragging her by the hair through the school’s hallways.

McEntire confronted the boy, talked him into letting Saenz go and coaxed him into going outside.

According to court documents, as McEntire backed his way outside, the boy lunged at him with the knife.

As the two appeared outside the school, a school security guard ran toward the boy and hit him with a chain and lock she had in her hands, court documents show.

The boy fled and was later arrested at his home.
