Bail set for day care worker accused of child molestation

Bail was set Friday at $100,000 for a former day care employee who is facing charges of sexual assault against two girls, jail records show.

Cameron Thomas, of Las Vegas, was arrested Wednesday on 10 counts, including first-degree kidnapping, six counts of sexual assault with a victim younger than 14, two counts of lewdness with a minor and one count of attempted lewdness with a minor under 14.

About 20 people supporting Thomas attended the bail hearing Friday morning before Justice of the Peace Melanie Tobiasson.

Thomas’ defense attorney, Joel Mann, said the supporters included family, friends, co-workers, and parents of children Thomas had supervised.

Thomas “vehemently denies” the charges, Mann said, and added that he was “confident his client will be completely exonerated” once the facts of the case come out at trial.

Mann had asked that bail be set at $5,000 per count, or $50,000.

Authorities allege Thomas abused the girls, now 9 and 11, starting when each was about 5 years old. The girls, who now live in Phoenix, knew Thomas because he was a family friend and also worked at a day care center they attended.

Thomas worked at Kids R Kids Day Care, 2830 S. Cimarron Road, from January 2005 to March 2010 and the Bright Child Learning Center, 8060 Blue Diamond Road, from March to December.

According to a Las Vegas police report, the girls told Phoenix police that Thomas molested them in cars, bedrooms of various homes, in cars while running errands and while swimming with them in pools.

They said that he tried to molest them in a storage room at Kids R Kids but that each time they were able to escape him.

Police have asked anyone with information regarding the case to call Detective Zachary Johnson at 702-828-3421.

Thomas does not face any new charges since the story became public Thursday.
