School year change scrapped

The Clark County School Board scrapped a proposal Thursday to change the school calendar for 2012-13 so the first semester would conclude before the winter break.

The school district will stick to its traditional schedule with the first semester finishing in mid-January.

Beginning the school year earlier in August would have cost the school district about $1.5 million in additional expenses for air conditioning and energy costs, officials said.
