Woman dies in house fire in northeast valley

A woman was found dead after a Sunday afternoon house fire near Mount Hood Street and Owens Avenue, a Clark County spokesman said.

Authorities did not release her identity.

County spokesman Dan Kulin said firefighters were alerted at 5:20 p.m. to the blaze at the two-story home at 1795 Mount Hood St. Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke and flames at the rear of the home. The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes.

A cat also died in the fire. The damage was estimated at $50,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
