Florida ends casino expansion plans

Gaming expansion in Florida was shelved this week.
A state senator who was spearheading the effort to bring five Las Vegas-style hotel-casinos to Florida said he was withdrawing a proposed bill.
Las Vegas Sands Corp. was backing the Florida legislation, which met up with heavy opposition from the Seminole Indian Tribe, which operates two Indian casinos in the state.
Las Vegas Sands was targeting the South Florida market. Wynn Resorts also expressed interest in opening a Florida casino and hotel.
"Las Vegas Sands and the rest of the industry are very much committed to seeing this issue through the rest of session," Las Vegas Sands lobbyist Nick Iarossi told the Orlando Sentinel.
However, he acknowledged that the chances of getting a bill to the governor’s desk this year was slim.
