North Las Vegas boy who drowned identified

A North Las Vegas boy who drowned in a backyard swimming pool Monday was identified Tuesday.

Police said 23-month-old Steve Medrano was found in the pool about 10:45 a.m. in the 2900 block of Bassler Street, near Cheyenne Avenue east of Civic Center Drive.

The boy died at North Vista Hospital.

Police said the child lived at the home and was under the care of a family member. The family member lost sight of the toddler for a few moments and then found him in the pool.

The incident remains under investigation.
