Nevada Ballet Theatre, Cirque du Soleil team up for Showcase

The Nevada Ballet Theatre and Cirque du Soleil plan to present “A Choreographers’ Showcase” at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Viva ELVIS Theatre at Aria at CityCenter, 3730 Las Vegas Blvd. South.

Proceeds will subsidize a special performance for Clark County students. In the past three years, 3,000 local students have witnessed this one-of-a-kind production bridging artists from diverse backgrounds and dance styles.

The 90-minute production includes 10 original choreographed pieces, five from Nevada Ballet Theatre dancers and five from Cirque du Soleil artists.

‘Legends in Concert’ at Harrah’s offers locals discount during May

“Legends in Concert,” the longest-running celebrity tribute show in the world, plans to celebrate 28 years of shows on the Las Vegas Strip by offering a special locals’ discount during May. The show is performed twice nightly, six nights per week in the Harrah’s Showroom at Harrah’s Las Vegas, 3475 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Nevada residents can purchase a general admission ticket, regularly priced at $55.45, for $28 (plus taxes and fees). There is a limit of six tickets per order, and guests most show a valid Nevada ID at the box office.

‘The Lion King’ offers Locals discount
on children’s tickets throughout May

In celebration of its second anniversary on the Strip, Disney’s “The Lion King” at Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino is introducing its first locals’ ticket offer just for children. For weekend matinee performances during May, each adult purchasing a full-price ticket can purchase two child tickets for only $15.

Local residents can get discounted tickets to ‘Matsuri’ at Imperial Palace

From now until May 31, local residents can purchase tickets to “Matsuri,” a production of 15 Japanese acrobats, gymnasts, dancers and comedians who perform at the Imperial Palace, for $20, plus box office fees and tax, with a valid Nevada ID.

Since the earthquake and tsunami struck Japan in March, the show has been collecting donations at each performance to assist with relief efforts.

In addition, through May, “Matsuri” will donate $5 for each locals ticket purchased to the American Red Cross. The show already has raised more than $2,000 and hopes to reach $10,000 by the end of May.

“Matsuri” plays at 4 p.m. Saturdays through Wednesdays and 8 p.m. Fridays. Tickets are available at the Imperial Palace box office, at vegas.com or by calling 888-777-7664.

former review-journal editor’s exhibit open at left of center art gallery

A tribute to the photography of the late Las Vegas Review-Journal assistant city editor Warren Bates is on display at Left of Center Art Gallery, 2207 W. Gowan Road.

The exhibit is called “Road to Zzyzx.” Its images document deserted areas in and around the desert settlement. It is scheduled to run through June 4.

Bates died in April 2010, 7 miles outside the California ghost town of Amboy, more than 130 miles from Las Vegas, when a train broadsided his car. He was 49.
