Hilton pool party targets 35-and-older crowd with more relaxed vibe

Those of a certain age — and anybody of any age who likes old-school R&B — will love what the Las Vegas Hilton has done with its Friday evening pool party.

Old School by the Pool, returning for its second season, offers a vibe that’s fun and energetic but, perhaps, a bit more relaxed than that seen at other such events around town.

Rick White, the Las Vegas Hilton’s vice president of brand marketing and entertainment, says the event targets a 35-and-over crowd.

"It’s a very relaxing vibe," he says, "but there will be hundreds of people dancing and a lot of energy."

The hotel partners with The Oasis, KOAS-FM, 105.7 for the weekly events, and White said music is provided by live bands offering up "old-school R&B" (think Michael Jackson and Al Green).

The combination of live music, no cover or admission charge, food and drink specials, the great view from the hotel’s third-floor pool deck and dancing adds up to "a great environment" and "a fine evening," White says.

"We set up the whole side of the pool as a dance floor, essentially, and pretty much once the sun goes down, that dance floor is packed. We get from 600 to 700 people up to 1,200."

White even has noticed that, when the pool party winds down, many guests just head downstairs to continue partying at the hotel’s Club Oasis.

"People leave the pool area at 10 o’clock and just head down and keep dancing until the wee hours of the morning," he says.

Old School by the Pool runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Fridays at the Las Vegas Hilton, 3000 Paradise Road. For more information, call 732-5111.
