Galactic blends New Orleans’ past, future

They’ve taken an old sound and broadened it with new parameters: New Orleans’ instrumental quintet Galactic push the bounds of horn-powered Crescent City funk with hip-hop and electronica flourishes. Consequently, they sound like the past and the future of their hometown at once.

See Galactic at 8 p.m. Sunday at Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas, 3771 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 day of show; call 733-7625.
