Weekend fire near Sam Boyd Stadium blamed on homeless

County officials blamed homeless people for a Saturday afternoon brush fire that burned about 84 acres near Sam Boyd Stadium.

The fire, which began in a swampy area near 7000 East Russell Road, was out by Sunday morning.

A final cause of the blaze has not been determined, but a nearby homeless camp was the likely source, officials said.

Las Vegas Fire Department officials said the area often burns in the spring. No buildings were threatened in the blaze.

The Bureau of Land Management, the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service, Nevada Division of Forestry and Las Vegas police helped fight the fire or contain the blaze.
