North Las Vegas man dies after ‘car surfing’ incident

A 20-year-old man critically injured while “car surfing” Monday night has died.

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the man as Matthew Galvin of North Las Vegas.

North Las Vegas police spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said the incident occurred about 9 p.m. in the 400 block of Violetta Avenue, near Commerce Street and Azure Avenue.

Coon said Galvin was on the hood of a 1988 Ford Bronco that was traveling about 10 to 15 mph before the car suddenly stopped and he fell off, suffering a head injury.

The vehicle was driven by Galvin’s 17-year-old brother. A 15-year-old girl was a passenger.

In March, a 16-year-old girl spent a week in the hospital after falling in a car-surfing incident, Coon said.

This was the third fatal traffic incident in North Las Vegas this year.
