Heller cancels speech because of UNR president’s memorial service

CARSON CITY — U.S. Rep. Dean Heller has canceled Thursday night’s address to the Nevada Legislature in Carson City because it would conflict with a memorial service for University of Nevada, Reno President Milton Glick.

Heller, a Republican who has announced his intent to run for the U.S. Senate, was to speak to a joint session of the state Senate and Assembly at 5 p.m. Thursday.

A public memorial for Glick is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday at Lawlor Events Center on the UNR campus.

Glick died of a stroke Saturday at the age of 73.

Heller spokesman Stewart Bybee said Heller will reschedule his speech for a later date.

Thursday is also when President Obama will hold a town hall meeting in Reno.
