Officers ID’d in fatal downtown officer-involved shooting

Las Vegas police officers involved in Monday’s fatal officer-involved shooting were identified Wednesday.

SWAT Sgt. Mike Quick, 43, and Downtown Area Command officer Aaron Perez, 35, have been placed on routine paid administrative leave.

Quick was the officer who shot and killed Michael Dean Chevalier Jr., 48, about 4:45 a.m. Monday at the Sedona Hills complex at 2895 E. Charleston Blvd., near Fremont Street.

Chevalier had sexually assaulted and held a woman hostage for more than 12 hours after invading her apartment, apparently at random, on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Perez was not involved in the SWAT raid that ended the standoff.

He fired shots at Chevalier earlier, after the suspect fired at a civilian’s sedan he mistakenly believed was an undercover police vehicle.

Chevalier was convicted of manslaughter in May 1983 in Genesee County, Mich., according to public records.
