Trial set for Arizona inmate in escape, other allegations

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — One of three men who escaped from a prison near Kingman, Ariz., sparking a nationwide search last year, is scheduled to go on trial Tuesday in Flagstaff.

John McCluskey and Casslyn Welch, who helped the men flee the medium-security private prison, spent three weeks on the run. The two along with Tracy Province went on a spree that included the hijacking of two truck drivers in Arizona and the murder of a couple in New Mexico.

McCluskey, 46, has pleaded not guilty to several charges including two counts of kidnapping. Welch, Province and the third inmate have resolved their Arizona charges.
