HORSE RACING
April 14, 2011 - 1:04 am
TODAY AT SANTA ANITA PARK
By Richard Eng
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 2 furlongs, Purse $25,000, Maiden claiming $100,000, 2-year-olds
7 Real Dream – You’ll have a big edge over me in seeing the tote action on this field of FTS; a dart throw the night before.
6 Warren’s Dr. Boo – Tepid chalk based upon the great work of Cliff Sise; has bullet workouts sprinkled about too.
Long Shot – 4 Always the Same
Race 2 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $34,000, Claiming $32,000, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up
5 Park Time Luck – Faced much tougher in both starts off the claim by Jack Carava; easier test here, can grind it out late.
4 All the Love – A good example of a horse much better on dirt than synthetics; suspect can keep improving too.
Long Shot – 2 Ultra Awesome
Race 3 – 1 mile, Purse $18,000, Claiming $10,000, 4-year-olds
5 Mr. Saturdaynight – Been sliding down the claiming ladder since taken by Mike Pupye; this class is full of his friends.
4 Rock Solid King – Been away 3 months but showed ability in NoCal; like that P Val was hired to take over.
Long Shot – 6 Manofgold
Race 4 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $28,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up
4 Yes It’s a Cat – His resume on grass is far better than any other surface; like the idea of a closing sprinter down the hill.
5 Leandros – Has utility in that he can close or sit near the early pace; has the right pilot in Rafael Bejarano.
Long Shot – 1 Trumpet Player Jay
Race 5 – 7 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds
6 Depth – Dead-late closer gets blinkers on tonight; Alonso Quinonez rarely rides for John Sadler, entree into the barn?
1 Deluxe Bus – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; hate the rail, like the horse.
Long Shot – 4 Trastevere
Race 6 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $54,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
10 Ringmistress – I think she’ll be favored due to Rafael Bejarano; like a hillside closer with a parking lot post.
8 Duda Ten – She wanted no part of one mile in last; is bred to go long, she seems more comfortable sprinting.
Long Shot – 5 Candy’s Girl
Race 7 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $59,000, Allowance, 4-year-olds and up
3 Uh Oh Bango – Stride late last time as the chalk; third start off a 10-month hiatus could be his best one.
4 Preamble – Has won 2 straight since coming off the shelf for Richard Mandella; was away 10 months, could have a high ceiling.
Long Shot – 2 Yankee Station
Race 8 – 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
7 Imperatriz – Heavy chalk is likely the kind you still try and beat; stretching out around 2 turns, may inherit the win.
3 Tiz o’ Gold – Even run in last when taken back off the pace; this will be a grinder’s race to the finish.
Long Shot – 4 Mystery Bird
Best Bet – 5 Park Time Luck (race 2)
Santa Anita Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 18/7/$47.00; Long Shots, 9/1/$6.20; Best Bet, 1/0/$0
Santa Anita Park Totals – 1,085/302/$1,973.90; Long Shots, 541/83/$810.40; Best Bets, 62/28/$111.90
SIMULCAST PICK OF THE DAY – 4 Fascinatin’ Rhythm (12/1) in race 8 at Keeneland . For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Enrichment ran second at Keeneland paying $4.00 to place and $2.80 to show. Stats – 61/44/$354.00
