RELIGION NOTES

MUSIC

Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd., will present opera singer Madelene Capelle in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is free, but goodwill offerings will be accepted (341-7800).

All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 4201 W. Washington Ave., will present music by the Hutchison Duo at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday (878-2373).

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 101 S. Rancho Drive, will present its Gospel–Praise–Spiritual concert featuring the 40-voice Sanctuary Choir, the Children’s Young Bell Choir, the Chalice Ringers Adult Hand Bell Choir, the men’s quartet First Love and others, at 4 p.m. Sunday. A goodwill offering will be accepted. A nursery will be provided, and refreshments will follow the concert (384-1544).

Community Lutheran Church, 3720 E. Tropicana Ave., will present an interfaith concert with Ken Medema at 7:30 p.m. May 14. The concert will benefit Family Promise of Las Vegas. In advance, general admission tickets are $25 and VIP seating is $35. Tickets at the door will be $30 to $40. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. (638-8806).

EVENTS

The National Day of Prayer will be observed Thursday. A noon event will take place at the Grant Sawyer State Building, 555 E. Washington Ave., with keynote speaker the Rev. Roger Ryu, president of the Las Vegas Council of Korean Churches. Joel Garcia of Latino Townhall will recognize Cinco de Mayo, and Rabbi Shmuel Oppenheim will close with a blessing in Hebrew, Spanish and English. Other gatherings will be at the following locations: noon at North Las Vegas City Hall, 2200 Civic Center Drive; noon at the Henderson Amphitheatre, 200 S. Water St.; and 6 p.m. at Las Vegas City Hall, 400 Stewart Ave.

Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 S. Maryland Parkway, and Huntridge Teen Clinic will present the Spring Art and Music Festival on May 7. The event will feature fine art, champagne, hors d’oeuvres and music. The art festival will be 3-6:30 p.m. An organ concert by Ty Woodward will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 for the art festival, and $40 for the art festival and concert. Proceeds will benefit Huntridge Teen Clinic and Christ Church Episcopal (684-7746 or 735-7655).

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., will have its annual Parking Lot, Patio & Bake Sale 9 a.m.-1 p.m. May 14. Food and snacks will be available (732-2052).

St. George’s Anglican Church, 7676 W. Gilmore Ave., will have a celebration for St. George’s Day on May 15. The 10:30 a.m. Mass will be followed by a barbecue. Lunch is $5 for ages 12 and older, free for children younger than 12 (395-4576).

MEETINGS

The Las Vegas Lay Dominicans will have their monthly meeting featuring prayer, formation activities and a Communion service, 10 a.m.-noon today at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Newman Community, 4765 Brussels St.

The Sathya Sai Baba Devotional Singing Group meets at 5 p.m. Sundays at 1128 Triumph Court (461-8655).

The Secular Franciscans of St. Margaret of Cortona fraternity meets at 12:30 p.m. the fourth Sunday of the month at Pace E Bene offices, 1420 W. Bartlett Ave. (453-2417).

CLASSES

SINGLES GROUPS

New Life Christian Center has a singles meeting at 7 p.m. the second Friday of the month at 1229 E. Carson Ave. (387-5433).

Single Adults Learning Together, or SALT Ministries of CornerStone Christian Fellowship, meets at 6 p.m. Saturdays at 5825 W. Eldora Ave. (871-5050).
