Las Vegas woman arrested in slaying at apartment

A 23-year-old Las Vegas woman was arrested on murder charges Thursday after admitting to breaking into a woman’s apartment and cutting her throat, authorities said.

Stephanie Kirby called Las Vegas police about 3:30 a.m. Thursday and reported the killing, according to her arrest report.

Kirby told police she entered an apartment at 5501 Harmon Ave, near Boulder Highway, and found a woman, later identified as Tiffany Batteate, 24, sleeping in a bed.

She told police she struck Batteate several times with a vase and then ordered her into the bathtub. She then stabbed Batteate several times with a kitchen knife, according to the report.

Kirby told police she was angry with Batteate because she had ruined her friend’s life. She denied entering the apartment with the intention to kill.

According to the report, there was blood on the bed, carpeting and walls of the apartment.

Kirby was booked at the county jail on a charge of murder with a deadly weapon.
