Pedestrian struck, killed in Las Vegas

A 62-year-old Las Vegas pedestrian was killed Friday night when he was struck by two vehicles while walking in the eastbound lanes on Sahara Avenue just west of Rainbow Boulevard, according to police.

The two drivers told Las Vegas police they did not see the man until it was too late. Witnesses told officers that the man was in the travel lanes and not inside a marked crosswalk or at the intersection.

According to the police report, the man was first struck by a Toyota Yaris driven by 66-year-old Sharon Takahashi and then hit by a Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by 34-year old Steven Smith. Both drivers live in Las Vegas.

The pedestrian was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma center where he died from his injuries. No arrests were made in connection to the accident. This is the 48th traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction this year.
