Club plans tributes to DJ AM

Several famous DJs will take turns spinning music at the Hard Rock’s Vanity nightclub tonight to pay tribute to DJ AM and to raise money for a drug-rehabilitation fund.

The names of the DJs are being withheld officially. I can confirm they are stars in the DJ world who headline Vegas, plus an appearance by the legendary group De La Soul.

Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s turntables, mixer and Nikes will be enshrined in a glass case at the hotel’s Joint concert hall.

His family is expected, but sister Lara Long, who established the DJ AM Memorial Fund, died of colon cancer at age 40 in May.

DJ AM became a fixture in Vegas after he started dating Nicole Richie in 2003. I first saw him spin then, before he was more famous, at a celeb party in a little MGM lounge, where Flavor Flav chatted up Tara Reid, who was shivering. Yeah, that was a weird night.

AM died at 36 in 2009 from an apparent overdose. His family said he lost sobriety after taking meds to relieve pain from head and hand burns he suffered in a 2008 Learjet crash, which also injured Travis Barker. AM and drummer Barker played club gigs together.

Tickets ($50 at VanityTickets.com) cover hors d’oeuvres and cocktails. It starts at 8:30 p.m. All proceeds go to AM’s memorial fund. After Vanity opens for regular business around 10:30 p.m., admission dollars go to the fund too.
