Man, woman arrested in Dec. 11 downtown slaying

A 31-year-old man and his 22-year-old girlfriend have been arrested in connection with the slaying of a man at a downtown apartment complex this month, according to arrest reports obtained Monday.

Kevin Banks was arrested Friday and booked into the Clark County Detention Center. He is being held without bail and faces charges of murder with a deadly weapon of a victim older than 60, possession of firearms by a prohibited person and discharging a firearm at or into a structure.

Banks’ girlfriend, Yvette Thirsty, also was arrested Friday and booked into the county jail on recommended charges of accessory to murder and probation violation.

About 10:30 p.m. Dec. 11, Carl Owens was fatally shot at an apartment on the 800 block of F Street, near Bonanza Road and H Street. Reports said multiple witnesses identified Banks as the shooter when police showed them a picture of him. One witness also saw Thirsty driving Banks near the apartments before the shooting.

According to the report, Banks is a two-time registered felon in Nevada.
