Downtown Las Vegas gets new motto

The votes are in.

"Every city has a soul" is downtown Las Vegas’ new motto.

The winning tagline, which captured 35 percent of more than 1,200 votes in an online contest between four finalists, will be unveiled at today’s Symphony Park lecture series, "2012: The Year of Downtown." The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Fifth Street School, 401 S. Fourth St. The retro-style logo, one of three finalists, received 59 percent of nearly 1,200 votes cast.

Symphony Park project manager Newland Co. sponsored the downtown logo contest as part of a greater downtown marketing initiative. The taglines and logos, crafted by Faiss Foley Warren Public Relations & Government Affairs, were a result of dozens of one-on-one stakeholder meetings with downtown business owners.

The campaign’s $25,000 budget comes from a larger $150,000 marketing fund provided by City Parkway V Inc., a nonprofit affiliate of the city.

Nancy Higgins, Newland Co.’s marketing director, said the winning logo and tagline will be used together at first, then the logo will be used on its own and possibly in conjunction with other taglines.
