Phoenix man killed after losing control of vehicle

A 29-year-old Phoenix man was killed Wednesday in a car crash in the east valley.

Las Vegas police said the man, who was not identified, was driving north on Eastern Avenue near Bonanza Road at about 10 p.m. when he attempted to pass a 1997 Chrysler minivan.

The man lost control of his vehicle and rear-ended the van. The vehicle then struck a palm tree in a median.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two people in the minivan were transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries.

Speed was a factor in the crash, police said. It’s unclear if alcohol was a factor.

This was the 68th traffic-related fatality in the Metropolitan Police Department’s jurisdiction in 2011.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the dead man.
