Horse Racing: Santa Anita Park, 10/14/11
October 14, 2011 - 1:05 am
Today at Santa Anita Park
Post Time 1 p.m.
Race 1 – 7 furlongs, Purse $45,000, Maiden special weights, 2-year-olds
6 Liaison – Typical green debut, slow early, fast late; clearly the one to beat with one step of improvement.
2 Patriotic Lion – Speedball figures to provide the target; Joel Rosario will play catch me if you can tonight.
Long Shot – 5 Written Rule
Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
4 Sheskey – Exits a key race and figures to set an uncontested lead; can settle too as an alternate strategy.
2 Brooklyn Rose – Bob Hess taking the blinkers off today; stretching out in distance for the first time.
Long Shot – 3 Town Belle
Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $50,000, Fillies, 2-year-olds
7 Twitch – Hard to believe John Sadler runs her for a price tag; blinkers on, she could be very valuable as a broodmare.
3 Walkingonadream – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; chased a good one in Customer Base.
Long Shot – 4 Bold Pretense
Race 4 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $17,000, Claiming $10,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
8 Powerofvoodoo – Last ride in the long career of Octavio Vergara; think they might try and give him one?
7 Monica C C – Huge drop down in class can only help; she could wake up while chasing her friends tonight.
Long Shot – 6 Hot Citizen
Race 5 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $22,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
6 Righteous Renee – For forgiving handicappers only; need to draw a line through her last debacle, first race for a price tag.
2 Babessa – Good effort in debut and can move forward with experience; like that Rafael Bejarano remains loyal.
Long Shot – 5 McDuffie
Race 6 – 6 furlongs, Purse $21,000, Claiming $25,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
2 So Tempted – Another who must be forgiven for a miserable last race; her two races before that were pretty good.
7 My Little Morgan – Claimed by Jack Carava off a sharp win; suspect she can be a useful sort with her tactical speed.
Long Shot – 4 Sean S
Race 7 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 15 feet), Purse $27,000, Starter allowance $40,000, 3-year-olds and up
4 Joker Face – Big rider switch to Rafael Bejarano for the money shot; tactical speed to sit a perfect trip.
3 Uncle Greg – Doubt if he can win, 1-for-19 lifetime, but sure can run second and third; use underneath in vertical bets.
Long Shot – 6 Velley Fog
Race 8 – 7 furlongs, Purse $18,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, Fillies and mares, 3-year-olds and up
3 Blue Tambourine – Been away 18 months, but has the most back class; watch the tote board and probables for hints.
6 Highly Composed – Ran a stinker at Del Mar after OK races last winter; suspect she hated the Del Mar synthetic surface.
Long Shot – 1 Somenchanted Evenin
Best Bet – 6 Liaison (race 1)
Santa Anita Thursday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 15/5/$20.20; Long Shots, 8/1/$3.80; Best Bet, 1/1/$4.60

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – 2 Supreme (6/1) in race 9 at Keeneland. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Thursday, Fiji Star ran second at Keeneland paying $5.40 to place and $2.580 to show. Stats – 158/103/$803.00; follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
