Jeffrey Brown was awarded the 2011 HealthInsight Quality Award for demonstrating excellence in patient care and commitment to excellence in health care.

Brown is a physician at Optimal Health Primary Care in Henderson.

Debra Nelson, MGM Resorts International vice president of corporate diversity and community affairs, has received an NV Magazine Diversity Award for outstanding work in the field of diversity and inclusion.

Linda Miller of Henderson was the principal planner of the Helen J. Stewart statue dedication at the Old Las Vegas Mormon Fort State Historical Park on Dec. 3.

Miller plays Stewart as a historical character for civic groups. She appeared in character in 2010 before the Las Vegas Centennial Commission and received $99,000 for the statue sponsored by the Friends of the Fort.

She is executive producer of a documentary about Stewart set to be distributed to schools.

Todd-Avery Lenahan has been named to the board of directors of Communities in Schools of Nevada.

Lenahan is principal of ABA Design Studio and has designed spaces for Wynn Resorts and Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group USA.

He has been appointed to the UNLV Foundation and has been an ongoing adjunct professor at the UNLV School of Architecture, as well as serving on its Dean’s Advisory Board.

He is a published author, writing for trade and travel publications.

Anita Getzler, an art teacher at Centennial High School, won a $250 award sponsored by the Watercolor Society, Public Education Foundation and the Clark County School District.

Getzler was recognized for her excellence in teaching and plans to use the money for classroom supplies, according to the district.

Paul Janda, DO, and Gene Tran, DO, were honored Jan. 10 as Valley Hospital’s first two graduates of its four-year Neurology Physician Residency program.

Janda will practice medicine in Southern Nevada. He recently was published as a co-author in the “Journal of the American Osteopathis Association” for his article, “Carotid Body Tumor as a Reversible Cause of Syncope: Case Report and Review of the Literature.”

Tran will join a neurology practice in Burbank, Calif., and have medical staff privileges with Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center.

Raul Faria was one of 14 U.S. bartenders who went to Helsinki , Finland, in January for the Finlandia Vodka Cup.

Bartenders were graded in a variety of categories including apertif, long drink and quick mix.

Faria, who bartends at Serendipity 3 at Caesars Palace and Coconuts Beach Club at Town Square Las Vegas, entered his long drink called the Spice Trade.

State Sen. Joe Hardy has been named a board member for Easter Seals Nevada.

A native Nevadan, Hardy is a practicing family physician with more than 25 years of experience.

He comes from an extensive background of legislative service and has worked on many notable Nevada initiatives.

Robin Wadley-Munier has been appointed to the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s board of trustees.

Wadley-Munier is liaison to Las Vegas City Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian. Her term will run through April 2013.

Nicole Mastrangelo has been named director of the Young Philanthropists Society by the United Way of Southern Nevada.

The Young Philanthropists Society consists of leaders in their 20s to 40s who make a minimum $1,500 donation to the United Way of Southern Nevada, volunteer their time and talent to create a stronger community and are committed to networking and building relationships in order to make a difference.
