MUSIC

The Mountaintop Faith Ministries Gospel Choir led by Joseph Pigee will perform at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at Green Valley Presbyterian Church, 1798 Wigwam Parkway, Henderson. Admission is free, but a freewill offering will be accepted (454-8484).

EVENTS

Congregation P’nai Tikvah will offer "Chopsticks & Challah," a dinner and service welcoming Shabbat and the Chinese New Year, at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Blasco Event Wing of the UNLV Foundation Building, on the southwest corner of Maryland Parkway and Cottage Grove Avenue. Tickets are $18 for adults, and $12 for children (436-4900).

Lamb of God Lutheran Church and School, 6220 N. Jones Blvd., will have a communitywide book drive and open house with activities and food from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 21. The book drive will benefit at-risk school Ruth Fyfe Elementary School. Also at the church, the Crafters for Christ will offer a scrapbooking event 6 p.m.-midnight Jan. 27 and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 28. The fee is $75 and includes dinner, a continental breakfast, snacks and scrapbooking classes. The event also will feature vendors and prizes. Participants must register by Friday (645-4998).

The 19th annual Lights for Life prayer vigil, featuring prayer, testimonials and songs of praise, will be at 5 p.m. Jan. 22 at the Lloyd George U.S. Courthouse, 333 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The event is sponsored by the Diocese of Las Vegas Pro-Life Office (212-6472).

Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North, will offer an adoption orientation for those interested in learning about domestic infant adoption 3-5 p.m. Jan. 25. The program is free (385-3351).

SERVICES

Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, 8425 W. Windmill Lane, will offer a pet blessing at 2 p.m. Jan. 21. All pets (including stuffed animals) are welcome. Pets should be leashed or caged and up to date on their shots. The blessing will include a brief ceremony followed by an individual blessing of all animals (873-3589).

CLASSES

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Las Vegas, 3616 E. Lake Mead Blvd., will offer a free class on the principles and history of its liberal religious tradition noon-2 p.m. Jan. 22 (878-0443).

Reformation Lutheran Church, 580 E. St. Louis Ave., offers English as a Second Language conversational classes at 9:30 a.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays (541-1952 or 732-2052).

SINGLES GROUPS

The Jewish Community Center of Southern Nevada, Temple Sinai and Congregation Ner Tamid offer a variety of programs for Jewish singles of all ages in Las Vegas and Henderson. For details, call the Jewish Community Center at 794-0090, Temple Sinai at 254-5110 or Congregation Ner Tamid at 733-6292.

Las Vegas LDS Temple decision challenged in court

A group has asked a court to review the Las Vegas City Council’s decision to approve a controversial proposal to build an LDS temple near Lone Mountain.
