World Poker Tour wraps up

Just as the World Series of Poker kicked off its 43rd annual tournament at the Rio last weekend, the World Poker Tour wrapped Season X at the Bellagio.

Marvin Rettenmaier of Germany topped a field of 152 to capture the $25,000 buy-in WPT World Championship. The competition included Daniel Negreanu, Erik Seidel, Vanessa Selbst and defending champion Scott Seiver.

Rettenmaier earned almost $1.2 million while runner-up Philippe Ktorza of France earned $805,310 after a 77-hand heads-up battle that brought both players to the brink of elimination on numerous occasions.

“The heads-up was such a roller coaster, and it feels so great to win such a big, prestigious title,” Rettenmaier said.

In the $100,000 WPT Super High Roller, Tom Marchese of Parsippany, N.J., re-entered the event after busting out on Day 1. The move culminated with a first-place finish, earning Marchese more than $1.3 million. A total of 34 players took part in the event.

Marchese’s victory came after nearly 80 hands of heads-up play against second-place finisher Andrew Robl of Las Vegas. The payday was the 24-year-old’s second-ever tournament win and the largest single payday of his career. Robl collected $822,375.

The events were taped for airing on Fox Sports Net later this year.
