Inmate convicted in Clark County murder found dead in Ely prison

An inmate serving a life sentence for a Las Vegas murder was found dead at the Ely State Prison on Friday morning.

Clayton Wrencher, 49, was convicted in the April 2009 murder of Patricia McCreery, the mother of his children.

McCreery had been stabbed to death. Wrencher received a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Nevada Department of Corrections Deputy Director Brian Connett said the death was being investigated by the White Pine County sheriff’s office and his department’s inspector general.

Connett did not provide details about how Wrencher was found or whether his death was suspicious.
