Plaza race and sports book to be renovated, upgraded

Sports book operator William Hill on Thursday announced that its race and sports book at the Plaza will undergo an extensive renovation and become the company’s flagship sports book downtown.

William Hill recently acquired Nevada’s three sports book operators, including Brandywine Bookmaking, which operated Lucky’s Race and Sports Book at the Plaza.

The Plaza’s sports book will upgrade its video displays, seating and bar. Plaza customers will be able to use William Hill’s mobile sports wagering app on iOS, Android and Blackberry phones and tablets and have access to a self-service wagering kiosk.

William Hill also operates sports books at Binion’s and Four Queens.

William Hill spokesman Dan Shapiro said the renovation is a joint venture between the sports book operator and the Plaza. Construction will begin soon and wrap up by the end of the year. The cost of the work was not disclosed.
