UNLV men’s golf team ties for second in season opener

The UNLV men’s golf team, ranked 13th, finished in a tie for second Monday at the season-opening Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at Air Force Academy, Colo.
UNLV shot 4-over 292 in the third round, joining Coastal Carolina (287) with an even-par 864 total. Colorado shot 3-under 285 to win the 16-team event at 12-under 852.
Blake Biddle led the Rebels, shooting 1-over 73 to tie for sixth at 3-under 213, and Kurt Kitayama (71) tied for ninth at 214. Colorado’s Jason Burstyn (68) took the individual title at 9-under 207.
■ UNLV WOMEN’S GOLF – The Rebels were tied for fifth after the first two rounds of the Col. Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. UNLV posted an 18-over 594 total, tied with UNR, with Texas Tech leading the 17-team field at 1-under 575.
Mayko Chwen Wang led UNLV, shooting 3-over 147 to stand tied for 12th, and Marguerite Swearingen (148) was tied for 16th. New Mexico’s Manon DeRoey was in first at 7-under 137.
The final round is today.
