Toddler hospitalized after being shot late Wednesday night

A toddler has nonlife-threatening injuries after being shot Wednesday night, Las Vegas police said.

Metro received a call about 4 a.m. Thursday from Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center regarding a juvenile, 3½, who was shot. Arriving officers determined that the shooting may have happened about 11 p.m. Wednesday and was the result of the child’s father accidentally discharging a handgun that was in his pocket.

The shooting happened near a car wash at Spring Mountain Road and Decatur Boulevard, police said.

Abuse and neglect detectives are investigating.
