A look at some of the DVDs, CDs and books hitting stores this week:
DVDs
“Oz The Great and Powerful” (PG): A tornado whisks womanizing circus magician Oscar Diggs (James Franco) from Kansas to Oz, where he’s met by a trio of fetching witches (Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams), in this prequel to “The Wizard of Oz.”
Elsewhere, 15 years after the fairy-tale heroes (Jeremy Renner, Gemma Arterton) escaped certain death, they’ve dedicated their lives to ridding every dark forest of witches in “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” (R). And to get his son (Rafi Gavron) out of prison, an everyday businessman (Dwayne Johnson) sets out to bring down drug kingpins as part of a deal with a politically ambitious U.S. Attorney (Susan Sarandon) in “Snitch” (PG-13).
Topping today’s TV transfers: “House of Cards: The Complete First Season,” “Rizzoli & Isles: The Complete Third Season,” “Major Crimes: The Complete First Season,” “Burn Notice: The Complete Sixth Season,” “Fairly Legal: Season Two,” “Necessary Roughness: Season Two,” “The Newsroom: The Complete First Season,” “Wedding Band: The Complete Series” and “Perry Mason: The Ninth & Final Season — Volume One.”
CDs
Black Sabbath, “13”: The godfathers of heavy metal have returned with their first new album with their original frontman in 35 years.
Not sure what’s more surprising, that Black Sabbath has managed at long last to put out another record or that Ozzy Osbourne is still alive.
The album’s first single is “God Is Dead.”
Thankfully, the same can’t be said of this bunch.
