Man’s body found in vacant, boarded-up apartment downtown

A man was found dead Monday in a vacant downtown apartment.

Metro police responded at about 2 p.m. to the apartment complex at 242 W. Boston Ave. near the Stratosphere, to investigate complaints of heavy foot traffic in and out of a vacant apartment that had been boarded up the day before.

The apartment was last known to be secured, with plywood covering the door, at 9 p.m. Sunday, police said. Upon arrival, officers noticed the plywood had been removed. They found a man who appeared to have died of a gunshot wound, police said.

The Metropolitan Police Department believes the man was shot “sometime during the overnight hours.” No suspects have been identified and the motive is unknown.

The Clark County coroner’s office will identify the deceased man once his family has been notified.
