Regents OK new contract for UNLV president

The state’s Board of Regents Thursday voted to approve a new four-year contract for UNLV President Neal Smatresk.

His new contract, effective July 1 through June 30, 2017, includes an annual base salary of $246,426 and a total compensation package of $416, 424.

The only difference to his contract is $50,000 will be added to his “take home” pay and will no longer be deferred compensation paid at the end of his contract, according to John Kuhlman, Nevada System of Higher Education spokesman.

Additionally, a one-time contribution of $125,000 paid by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Foundation, will be rolled into a retirement account on July 1.

Smatresk is paid in line with the University of Nevada, Reno’s President Marc Johnson, whose total compensation package is $416,423. His package includes a base salary of $246,426, and a salary supplement of $119,997 paid through the university’s foundation and $50,000 in deferred compensation.
