New mom returns to work at Legislature

Assemblywoman Teresa Benitez-Thompson, D-Reno, returned to the Legislature on Monday, a week after she gave birth to a daughter, Sandra, who weighed seven pounds.

Benitez-Thompson said she plans to work through today , the deadline for passing bills out of their house of origin, before taking the rest of the week off. She will assume full-time duties next Monday.

Benitez-Thompson, a licensed social worker, is the chairwoman of the Assembly Government Affairs Committee.

Her husband, Jeff Thompson, is the weatherman for Channel 2 in Reno and a frequent weather writer for the Reno Gazette-Journal. The couple has two other children.
