Information meeting on driver authorization cards slated

An informational meeting on the new driver authorization cards will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the East Las Vegas Community/Senior Center, 250 N. Eastern Ave.

Sen. Mo Denis, D-Las Vegas, will hold the meeting. He authored Senate Bill 303, which gives people who live in the country illegally the right to drive their automobiles, starting Jan. 1.

The card, however, cannot be used as a proper form of identification.

Instead, the holder will be able to legally drive, regardless of status.

The card will cost $22 and as many as 66,000 people in the Silver State are expected to sign up for it.
