First Look: Two stars please crowds with ‘2 Guns’

What: “2 Guns”

Cast: Denzel Washington, Mark Wahlberg, Paula Patton, Bill Paxton, James Marsden, Fred Ward and Edward James Olmos

Writer: Blake Masters

Director: Baltasar Kormakur

The story: A DEA agent (Washington) and a Naval Intelligence officer (Wahlberg) have spent a year undercover in the same drug ring, without knowing the other is also undercover. But when the mission blows up in their faces, they’re disavowed and forced to go on the run together.

The buzz: Washington and Wahlberg have a knack for balancing Oscar-worthy fare (“Training Day,” “The Departed”) with lighter, crowd-pleasing, stuff-blowing-up-real-good spectacles (“Safe House,” “Contraband”). This one’s decidedly in the latter category.
