Chill out at the pool with Theophilus London
July 18, 2013 - 10:20 am
He poses like old-school R&B lady killers on his album covers and raps about falling in love with disco queens.
Theophilus London is a throwback of sorts, at least he envisions himself as much.
“We are back and makin’ music like it’s 1964,” he announces on “All Around the World” from his 2011 debut “Timez Are Weird These Days.”
Really, though, it’s the ’80s that London mines more on that album with its chunky synth lines, tinny-sounding drums and touches of vocodered vocals.
A laid-back, nonchalant presence on the mic, London could bottle his voice and sell it as a muscle relaxer.
Turn on, tune in, chill out.
