Cypress Hill, 311 right at home in The Joint

Prepare for some wicked cottonmouth and a case of the munchies so bad that you’d punch a baby for a handful of Cheetos.

The stoner-rific pairing of reefer rappers Cypress Hill and bong-abetted rockers 311 is a failed urine test waiting to happen.

Of course, there’s a lot more to both acts than a fondness for pot.

Cypress Hill are Latin hip-hop pioneers whose self-titled debut is still one of the most harrowing and influential releases of its kind two decades after the fact, with DJ Muggs’ inventive production continuing to resonate like a squawking car alarm.

For their part, 311 deserves much credit for being one of the few rap-influenced hard rock bands to tone down the machismo and bone-headed, break stuff mentality of so many of their peers in favor of a more enlightened, less aggro world view.

Both of them have blazed plenty of new paths — among other things.
