UNLV continues to recruit heavily in Southern Nevada, signing three locals, including the state’s top-ranked baseball player, among the nine signing announced Wednesday.
Right-handed pitcher Gabe Gonzalez of Arbor View High School is ranked No. 1 in Nevada by Perfect Game. He also is tabbed the nation’s 28th-best pitcher and the 89th overall top player.
Liberty High teammates Jesse Keiser and Dan Skelly also signed. Keiser is an outfielder and Skelly a right-handed pitcher.
Outside the state, the Rebels picked up right-hander Blaze Bohall of Mountain Ridge High in Glendale, Ariz., and left-hander Corey Wilson of O’Connor High in Phoenix. Bohall is the No. 16 player Arizona and Wilson the 51st best in that state.
Other signees included shortstop Austin Anderson of Columbine High in Littleton, Colo.; outfielder Hunter Bross of Notre Dame Prep in Scottsdale, Ariz.; right-hander Christian Myers of Rock Canyon High in Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and shortstop Payton Squier of Greenway High in Phoenix.
“Overall it is a really good recruiting class,” head coach Tim Chambers said in a statement announcing the signings. “We are super happy with it. We only offered 11 guys and we got nine of them. We got the guys we were going after and that is a real positive for our program. We can’t wait to get them all on campus.”
