Holiday traffic slows commute for travelers

Whether you’re already on your way back to California after Thanksgiving or you’re planning on hitting the road soon, be ready for a slow drive ahead.

Interstate 15 was crammed with people driving south around 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

The heavy traffic started as far back as St. Rose Parkway and I-15 and will cause several hours of delays, Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jeremie Elliott said.

“It’s typical holiday traffic,” Elliott said. On the other side of town, I-15 northbound past the Las Vegas Motor Speedway was shut down for a brief period due to an accident.

I-15 Northbound past Speedway is now open to traffic again, expect delays. Few details were available at noon, but according to NHP the accident happened around 11 a.m.
