Coroner identifies boys killed in travel trailer fire

The two Las Vegas boys that died in a trailer fire on East Carey Avenue near Lamb Boulevard on Jan. 26 have been identified by the Clark County coroner’s office.

The coroner had not yet determined the cause of death for Andrew Najera, 11, and Jerry Slayden Jr., 15, on Friday.

Clark County and North Las Vegas fire departments responded to the blaze at 4155 E. Carey Ave., near North Lamb Boulevard, about 3:30 a.m.

Firefighters found the boys’ bodies after putting out the fire in a travel trailer.

The oldest of four, Jerry was “the most responsible big brother ever,” according to family friend Miranda Paterson.

Paterson started a page to try to raise $4,000 for the service at www.gofundme.com/Jerry-Slayden-Jr-Memorial.

Slayden was learning to drive and had just got his learner’s permit, Paterson said.

“Life was just starting for him,” she said. “He was a very good kid.”

Andrew’s family was not available for comment, and fire officials have not released details of their investigation.
