Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, Jan. 30

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

5 Mambo Man – Claimed by Vann Belvoir off a comeback race; stretches back out in distance and could improve a lot today.

3 Mega Heat – Ran like a horse that needed a race in last; second start off a 5-month hiatus, should move forward in here.

Long Shot – 4 Hog’s Hollow

Race 2 – 1 1/16th miles, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, Fillies, 3-year-olds

2 Lady Bugatti – Was 15 lengths clear of the third place horse; Bob Baffert has a million 3-YOs, some better than others.

4 Mum – Was well bet in debut, then ran like a lost soul around the racetrack; she figures to be a lot tighter for this.

Long Shot – 3 Sweet Bliss

Race 3 – 6 furlongs, Purse $35,000, Claiming $32,000, 4-year-olds and up

5 Master Chef – Won first off the claim by Jerry Hollendorfer; has the back class to repeat the winning race.

1 Seeking the Sherif – Ron Ellis doesn’t claim many; this one is aggressively raised in class from $25K to $50K.

Long Shot – 4 Hadfunlastnight

Race 4 – 1 1/8th miles, Purse $20,000, Maiden claiming $20,000, 4-year-olds and up

8 Indygo Andy – Apprentice now down to 7-pound allowance; he mainly rides for Tom Proctor, gets a shot for John Sadler here.

2 Senor Pegasus – He has a lot of natural speed, now is stretched out in distance; figures to be forwardly placed.

Long Shot – 5 Awesome Okee

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $56,000, Cal-breds, Fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up

7 Van Dien Avenue – Has been challenged as a maiden facing winners twice; this is a much softer spot than those races.

6 Hanserella – Speedball will take this field as far as she can; the turf rail is out 24 feet, which will help the cause.

Long Shot – 4 Hot and Pleasing

Race 6 – 1 mile, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 3-year-olds

1 Day of Fury – Among a 3-horse Bob Baffert uncoupled entry; was well bet in debut, than got the ultimate test drive.

7 Snuggley Bear – Been well bet, but never favored, in 6 career races; been in the money 5 times, has yet to finish the job.

Long Shot – 2 Hoppertunity

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $45,000, Claiming $50,000, 4-year-olds

5 Magic Channel – Been off since Del Mar for Jerry Hollendorfer; he’s willing to expose him for $50K tonight too.

3 This One’s for Mel – I like cut back horses, especially if they have early speed; this is his first time down the hill.

Long Shot – 9 Craving Carats

Race 8 – 1 mile, Purse $16,000, Claiming $12,500, 4-year-olds and up

9 Londinium – Paul Aguirre turns to his main man Iggy Puglisi; class drop points to a horse ready to win.

5 Know More – Sliding down the claiming ladder to this career low class; need not be much to get into tonight’s photo.

Long Shot – 3 Crusher

Best Bet – 2 Lady Bugatti (race 2)

Santa Anita Park Sunday – Picks/Winners/Mutuels, 17/4/$22.80; Long Shots, 9/0/$0; Best Bet, 1/1/$5.00

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #6 Mrs. Bean (9/5) in race 1 at Aqueduct. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total. On Sunday, Sweet Baby Gaines ran out at Fair Grounds. Stats – 21/11/$84.60; Follow him on Twitter: @richeng4propick
