Horse Racing: Today at Santa Anita, March 27

Post Time 1 p.m.

Race 1 – 6 1/2 furlongs, Purse $56,000, Maiden special weights, 4-year-olds and up

4 Ya Wanna Hug – Horses that run for $8K in NoCal are a lot different than $8K in SoCal; stretches out for the hot bugboy.

7 Raven Wild – Dead late closer will hope for a hot pace up front; Victor Espinoza is having a renaissance meeting.

Long Shot – 1 Honest Desire

Race 2 – 6 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Claiming $16,000, 3-year-olds

6 Comealongwithme – Taking the biggest class drop in racing from MSW to maiden claiming; exits turf for her first dirt race.

1 Not a Love Song – Speed and the rail going a mile; sprinter stretching out should be able to get to the front no problem.

Long Shot – 5 Consecrate

Race 3 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $32,000, Claiming $25,000, 4-year-olds and up

3 Unusually Green – With the turf rail out 30 feet, will need to stay in contact with the leaders; Pick 6 carryover is $115K.

1 Do Some Magic – Has good tactical speed so should see a very good trip; Brice Blanc always saves something for the end.

Long Shot – 2 Heat Flash

Race 4 – 6 furlongs, Purse $27,000, Maiden claiming $40,000, Cal-breds, 3-year-olds and up

4 Tasha’s Courage – Really ran a clunker in last at short odds; his race 2 back, if repeated, is fast enough to destroy these.

7 No Ez Money – Faced slightly better in debut; is dropped to the bottom where some of these you know can’t win.

Long Shot – 5 Dehere Is Gone

Race 5 – 1 mile (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $40,000, Claiming $40,000, 4-year-olds and up

7 Lord Kitra – Takes a big class drop to face easier; has good early speed which will be helped by the turf rail out 30 feet.

6 Putahexonher – Walked out of the gate in her turf debut; she was running well late, interesting angle for a price horse.

Long Shot – 4 Luckyvic

Race 6 – 5 1/2 furlongs, Purse $23,000, Maiden claiming $30,000, 3-year-olds

6 Master Chef – Has an outstanding resume over Santa Anita dirt; switch to Corey Nakatani with Rafael Bejarano on suspension.

1 Valdirone – Been away 13 months, but showed talent last year; been showing bullet workouts, watch the tote board for clues.

Long Shot – 9 Memphis

Race 7 – 6 1/2 furlongs (turf, rail at 30 feet), Purse $58,000, Optional claiming $80,000, 3-year-olds

1 Christopher Street – Would not be surprised to see more speed under Mike Smith; turf rail is out 30 feet tonight.

5 Lucky Views – Victor Espinosa has been riding hot this meet; he also has California Chrome as a top Kentucky Derby mount.

Long Shot – 7 Awesome Return

Race 8 – 6 furlongs, Purse $20,000, Claiming $16,000, 4-year-olds and up

3 Moscato Girl – No surprise if Victor Espinosa won the late daily double; this one continues to be camera shy.

6 Wild Optimism – Peter Miller has gotten some live runners from New Mexico; this one should show up on the tote board.

Long Shot – 7 Euroclydon

Best Bet – 4 Tasha’s Courage (race 4)

SIMULCAST PLAY OF THE DAY – #2 Conspiracy (5/1) in race 7 at Fair Grounds. For scoring purposes, we’ll make a hypothetical $2 win, place and show bet, $6 total.
