Airport PreCheck to speed select McCarran passengers

More travelers at McCarran International Airport may soon be able to keep their belts and shoes on when they go through security.
The newest Transportation Security Administration PreCheck Application Center will be on the second level of McCarran’s Terminal 1, near the C and D Gates checkpoint. The center will allow flyers to apply for an expedited screening program.
Beginning in late February, McCarran passengers can pay $85 to apply for the Known Traveler Number and avoid tedious checkpoint procedures for up to five years.
PreCheck will also afford travelers to keep their laptop in its case and their TSA-compliant liquids bag in a carry-on.
“At McCarran our priority is a positive travel experience for passengers and expedited screening provides just that,” said Rosemary A. Vassiliadis, Director of Aviation for Clark County.
Interested persons will begin the enrollment process online and visit the center in-person to verify identity and citizen or immigration status, provide biographical information and be fingerprinted.
Once approved, they will be able to utilize PreCheck lanes at all security checkpoints.
“It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome the new TSA PreCheck application center to McCarran,” Vassiliadis said, “and we look forward to members of our community soon taking advantage of its convenient location.”
PreCheck lanes are already available at more than 100 airports across the country and nine major U.S. airlines participate in the screening program.
