Domestic disturbance cited by police in teen’s shooting Tuesday night

Police say a teenage girl shot in a northwest valley apartment complex Tuesday night was shot by her 16-year-old boyfriend.

“This was domestic related,” Metro officer Michael Rodriguez said about the boyfriend who is suspected of shooting his 17-year-old girlfriend in the stomach about 9 p.m.

The girl’s parents called police when their daughter walked into the family’s apartment at 2217 James Bilbray Drive with a single gunshot wound.

She was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma unit, but her injuries were nonlife-threatening, Metro Lt. David Gordon said.

An arrest has not been made, but the firearm was recovered, Rodriguez said.

Metro spokeswoman Laura Meltzer said police have identified a possible suspect, but since the suspect is a juvenile, they will not release details.
